Senggigi Beach, Lombok

Senggigi beach is located in Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat, Indonesia; it’s around 12 km in northwest Mataram. This beach is known with natural beauty, pure and the condition is calm. Many foreign prefer for coming to this beach compare to Sanur or Kuta in Bali. Visitors can feast the eyes with broad view of the sky in south, a row of trees on the east and Agung Mountain (east part from Bali Island).


Visitors can swim, diving or snorkeling, surfing, sunbathing and playing with the sands. There are many sharp rubble and marine animal in the sand, so visitors is always use the footwear if want to play in the sands. This beach is also known with the sunset, amazing view from the sunset can hypnotic every eyes. Especially in the full moon, many residents come to the beach and buried their body in the sands up to neck for 2 until 3 hours. People believe that doing this ritual can be medical therapy.


The access to this beach is easy, visitors can use ferry from Karang Asem Port, or use plane from Bali to Selaparang airport in Mataram Lombok. From Karang Asem port there are need 30 minutes, but if use plane just 15 minutes. In Senggigi beach many Hotels and restaurant that row along the coast. Visitors also can enjoy typical food from Lombok, and in every restaurant usually perform traditional music and dance.

Karapan Sapi, Traditional Festival from Madura

If in Spain we can see Matador with bullfight, in Indonesia there is a traditional festival that called Karapan Sapi, this festival like racing but use Cow as the subject. We can see this festival in Madura, a region in northeast Java Island. Karapan Sapi is not an ordinary race, for Madura’s people this festival like a way to dignity.

In Karapan Sapi, one person must use two cows where in the shoulders mounted a chariot of the wood as a jockey to stand and to set up a pair of cows in terms of direction and speed. To initiate a race Karapan Sapi usually accompanied by “Saronen”; Gamelan music that typical of Madura Island. And the jockeys use traditional dress that call “pesa’an”; is black color clothes and on the inside there are sleeve shirt that colored red and white stripes. Besides of tradition, Karapan Sapi is also a party after harvest rice and tobacco in Madura.

The history of Karapan Sapi is beginning in 13th century, this festival been famous by Pangeran Katandur from Sapudi Island, Sumenep. In the past, Cow is using by farmer to cultivate the land to be farm, and after the farm produce or harvest, Pangeran Katandur ask his society to do Racing with cow. And from that time, people always do Karapan Sapi after harvest.

Gudeg, traditional food from Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta is not only famous with culture, tourism and history of Yogyakarta palace, there are one of the traditional food that be characterized for Jogja, that is Gudeg. This food is made from young jackfruit cooked with a long process. The young jackfruit and small sliced boiled with spices typical. In order to become red, the young jackfruit boiled with teak leaves that will provide a natural red color.

The real taste from this food is sweet; people can add sauce or pieces of chili if want more spicy. Usually Gudeg will be served with rice, boiled egg, tofu, Tempe, chicken, scribble, etc, according to the taste of visitors.

Gudeg is easy to find in Jogja, almost throughout the city of Jogja we can find it. But there is one place that has been The Central of Gudeg in Jogja, its Wijilan Street. This place is near with Keraton Yogyakarta. In Wijilan Street we can see more than 10 Gudeg shop that line up along the way. In 1942 there is only one shop that sell Gudeg, as times goes by the number of shop is continues to grows. Every shop is offers different package of Gudeg, from the taste and a away to present is different.
