Borobudur Temple; The Biggest Buddha’s Temple

Borobudur is a name for Buddha’s temple that located on Borobudur, Magelang, and Central Java, Indonesia. It’s around 100 km from Semarang or 40 km from Yogyakarta. This temple has 1460 relief and 504 Buddha’s stupa in the area. Borobudur is one of the buildings that belong to World Wonder Heritages.

Borobudur has built by Samaratungga, who is one of the king in old Mataram Kingdom, the generation from Wangsa Syailendra. The type from Borobudur temple is stairs, it has 10 stairs with 42 meters height before renovation and around 34,5 meters after renovation, this is because the under stairs has use for restraint. In every stairs have reliefs that will be read as arranged hand of clock (left side from enter). In the relief has told about a legend story, such as Ramayana and also tell about the social condition in that age, such as relief farmer activity and voyage which happen on that time.

In every stairs is symbolizing the step from human life. This is appropriate with Buddha Mahayana principles, which every people that want to reach the Buddha level is must to pass every level in the life.

Borobudur has been found by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles in 1814, because since 14th century Borobudur has been grave by land. Now, Borobudur is use for religion sacred place by Buddhist. In every year Buddhist in Indonesia and foreign has visiting Borobudur for celebrate Waisak. Borobudur is one of favorite historical tourism to visit in Indonesia.
