Bunaken is an island with 8 km², part of the Bunaken National Marine Park. Bunaken is located at the northern tip of the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It belongs administratively to the municipality of Manado. Scuba diving attracts many visitors to the island. The Bunaken National Marine Park was formally established in 1991 and is among the first of Indonesia's growing system of marine parks. The park covers a total surface area of 89,065 hectares, 97% of which is overlain by sparkling clear, warm tropical water. Bunaken National Park extends over an area of 890.65 km² of which only 3% is terrestrial, including Bunaken Island, as well as the islands of Manado Tua, Mantehage, Nain and Siladen. Although each of these islands has a special character, it is the aquatic ecosystem that attracts most naturalists.

Water temperatures in Bunaken island is various between 27-30 degrees Celsius all year around with a visibility generally between 20-40 meters. It has a high diversity of - corals, fish, echinoderms or sponges. Notably, 7 of the 8 species of giant clams that occur in the world occur in Bunaken. It also claims to have seven times more general of coral than Hawaii, and has more than 70% of all the known fish species of the Indo-Western Pacific.

Now, Bunaken has more than 40 places for diving and snorkeling with amazing view in underwater, visitors can see around 150 species and 58 kinds of fish and coral. Bunaken National Marine Park has 20 spot dives with various depths until 1.344 meters. Around 12 spot dives from 20, there are located in Bunaken Island. Most of the 12 spot dives in Bunaken are lined from southeast until southwest. And in this place, there are underwater greats wall or also called with hanging walls that standing vertical and curve upwards.

Visitors that want to enter Bunaken area must pay Rp 50.000 for once entered, or if visitors want to pay around Rp.150.000, they can enter this area for one year, is like being member. This admission is applied for visitors that want to dive or not.
